Two visionary homeowners in one of Edmonton’s mature neighbourhoods reinvent their backyard with an accessible garden suite designed for aging in place.

Scope of Work

 

Believing that their development permit application would be refused due to zoning bylaw deficiencies, in 2018 the homeowners engaged Situate to represent them at the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.

Situate worked alongside the homeowners and their home designer to modify the plans for the suite, reducing the amount of zoning bylaw deficiencies and providing an air-tight rationale for all other needed variances. The development permit was subsequently approved with the support of neighbours, with no need to appeal.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the new suite will enable the homeowners to age in place in the neighbourhood they love.

Thank you Chelsey for your “true grit” with this initiative. It’s thanks to your diligence and perseverance that this approval has been achieved–the first hurdle in the goal to have a more practical garage-plus-suite living arrangement.
