Mary Help of Christians Chinese Catholic Parish is a longstanding religious institution in Edmonton’s mature community of Oliver.

With the parish’s existing rectory (clergy house) nearing the end of its lifecycle, the parish wished to build a new, modern rectory on the same site. The parish hired Euro Design Inc. to design the rectory and engaged Situate to handle the development permit process.

Situate worked closely with the parish, the designer, and the development officer to reduce the number of zoning bylaw variances and facilitate development permit approval. Throughout the approvals process Situate deftly navigated requests and requirements from various City of Edmonton departments and utility providers, including urban design, EPCOR, and fire rescue services. 

The development permit for the proposed development was granted in May 2020. As a result, the new rectory and the adjoining parish will continue to support cultural and religious diversity in one of Edmonton’s most vibrant neighbourhoods for many years to come.
